CT's New Free CSS Submarine

Hi All,

Since Knife started me out on this one with his thread and not wanting to hijack the thread since he did do such nice work on CT's excellent little kit ( and no, I have no plans on shrinking mine down like he did his, that is beyond my meager abilities), I figured I would add my two cents worth here.

First off, great job there CT! You have a very nifty little kit there and I had fun for a couple of evenings putting it together, thanks buddy.

I did pretty much build it up as designed with the exception of the steering gear mounted on the top. I opted to go with some fine styrene rod for the steering rods and tail ring mounting rods. I also made the two steering bars from sheet styrene stick, drilled out the holes, bent the ends of the rods and then added it all to the ship once I had it mostly put together. I also followed Knifes' idea of using a pounce wheel from a sewing kit to emboss the rivet head detail. Putting the parts down on top of an old mouse pad and tracing the lines that needed to be "riveted" on the reverse side then running the pounce wheel over it a couple of times being careful not to put too much pressure on it so the wheels' points embossed instead of poking holes in the card was not too difficult and made for a fast and easy way to add the rivet detail. Some Model Master Metalizer Lacquer in Gunmetal color was used to paint the white styrene bits and cover up a few places where white card showed through on the edges and corners.

Hi Corey,

You are most welcome. I did a little searching and found the 1/32 scale resin kit of this one and I must say, I much prefer your freebie over the $85 resin kit even if it is a bit smaller.

I am tinkering on another one of your freebies right now. Should have it done tomorrow or the next day, I think you will like it. I know I am having a ball with it on the bench.

Treadhead 1952, don't worry about hijacking any of my threads. I mostly post them for others that are building the same subject to see how I tackled the model. You model looks really good and your photos are sharp and informative. I look forward to seeing more of your builds in the future.

Thanks Guys,

CT makes a very nice model of the subject in question and it goes together without a lot of problems. I am already working on the next one and having entirely too much fun with it. I have purchased a couple of his other models from the E Card site and look forward to building them. They provide a nice light build to play around with while I am in the midst of more complicated ones like the HMS Savage I am tinkering at.
