Well the installation of 7-zip did not help. They are still
unrecognizable files on this computer which has windows 7
pro installed. I will avoid .php files in the future....Ron

cotlet,
Thanks for the help anyway....Ron

Ron does NOT have the file.

Listen to Rick...Ron, you are not "downloading" the file correctly.
Obviously if you have a php file, it is not the file.
a .php is not a file...its a processor function.

Lets just make sure of the download procedure again.
Humour me please Ron...
Go to the download area and find the XP51 file.
To download you click one of the three buttons:
the large Download button in the upper right corner of the file post,
or one of the File Titles (upper or lower).

Just a normal one click - left button.

...then you should get a download option to open or save the file.
(see my attached images)
...is the file a .rar file?
Because thats what its supposed to be.

Dave,
I have humored you. When I left click (once) on any of the
download buttons it starts downloading and does not give an
option to open or save the file and it is a php file. It is not a
.rar file. If I use internet download manager program to download
the file I get an error. I have spent too much time on this and
do not want to mess up this computer with any more failed
attempts to get the php files. Thanks for the help. I have no
problems with pdf files....Ron

Understood Ron...some things just aren't worth the aggravation!
(and I'm not talking about hawkman's file with that comment)

just to clarify...a .php is not a file.
[.php] is an extension denoting a processor function.
...kind of like a command to do something.

the fact that your computer just starts "downloading" something when you click on it represents some odd behaviour on the part of your system.
...maybe just a browser glitch? (and these are usually related to other browser integrated programs)

have you tried the exact same download procedure for another file in the downloads section?
I would assume the same result should occur.
if not, then the problem will also relate to a script issue on the page in question.

anyway, HERE is the XP51 file...it is a .rar file, which is just a compacted or archived file, and once extracted is a PDF file.
hopefully Jeff (hawkman) doesn't mind? I just popped it into my online paper model storage folder...you can give it a try if you like

I've followed this situation, and as many others I am confused with what's happening. Usually downloads are not so problematic.

Now I wonder if it can be something related to the web browser? I used Firefox to download this file, and it worked fine. But I've had past experiences with other browsers that can be as troublesome as has been seen here. I may suggest to check if there's some incompatibility with some browsers.

Dave,
I tried downloading other files the BE-12 PDF and the A-1h also PDF.
both downloaded OK. I tried your Mega upload file and it would not
download. There is some compatibility problem on this computer with
these files. I find that sometimes I get an error message that the
files were not decoded correctly if sent as an attachment in an e-mail.
I am using the Firefox Browser. There is most likely some script or
setting that is problematic on this Toshiba laptop. I may try the
download on my Gateway desktop to see if the problem exists on it..Ron

If you got to the megaupload page, and saw the "Download File" button on the right,
then I have no idea why you couldn't download the file.
You click the button, choose a "Save or Open" option and the file will download.

There is nothing special about .rar files ( or .zip or .7zip).
These are just compacted versions of the original PDFs to allow for a smaller transfer or storage size.
(eg a 1mb file is reduced anywhere from 5% to 50% in data size when compacted)

Why you can download one PDF and not this one makes no sense to me.

I can only assume the sight or the download action is being blocked by a firewall or AV program?
Maybe some sort of blocker integrated in your Browser?
...but then you say you download two other PDFs from the Download Gallery? strange.

A lot of times issues are user errors, the operator clicking the wrong buttons, attempting the download incorrectly, and thats what we are usually trying to determine.
In this case, you have me stumped at this point.

Trying the same actions on another system is always good for determining if the problem is user related or system related...good idea.

Dave,
As you said all this makes no sense. I tried all this on my desktop
Gateway computer and had the same results. It must be a security
setting or windows permissions settings. I'm stumped also.

Rick,
I got your e-mail and the pdf attachments worked just great. I now
have all the files. Thanks for your efforts guys. But in the future I
will avoid .php files.....Ron
