.php conversion
Hello Guys,
I am having difficulty opening up the P-51B file that was recently put up in the downloads section. Windows does not recognize the file and selecting Adobe Reader requires a file name which is not indicated on the download. I have had this problem before and the files are useless to me in that format. Is there a specific program to open these files? There must be something that will allow conversion to another format that is recognizable in windows....Ron |

The file is downloaded as .zip file (one of the commonly used standards for compressing files, just like .rar). You can use Winzip to open it (extract compressed files), its free to try for first 45 days. You can find it here.
Hope this helps.

No problem for me. Here's what I did, compapre if you did something differently: > downloads > aviation > XP-51 and you get a page with dowload button. Pressed the (one click with the left pc-mouse button) button and the file downloads in .rar (packed archive) and when opened there are four PDF files. I use free 7-ZIP to unpack those packed files. Hope this helps.

I'm sorry Ron. I mixed up things. The format of the file is .rar and you need a program like WinRar (not WinZip) to open it (available here). Windows by default can open .zip files but not .rar files.
Tappi must have installed on his machine at some point a program to read .rar files that's why his computer have no problems. I better shut up next time I'll try to offer help Here instruction how to install 7-zip (refered by Tappi) on Windows 7.

The file downloads as a .rar file,
It sounds like Ron right clicked on the button or the link, and did the save as feature that will save the page as a .php file Just click on the download button or file name, and it will download properly Rick

I tried all the suggestions. None work. I left clicked on the
download button and it downloads as a .php file. I managed to get the file changed to .rar and extracted as a zip file but I cannot open it without a file name. It must also be associated with a program. Windows paint, paint shop pro and adobe reader will not open it. I have went through this process before and will avoid .php files in the future. They are not worth the effort. Thanks a lot guys for the ideas...Ron |

PHP is not a file format like PDF, zip, doc, ppt etc - it actually relates to the functioning of the website in a similar manner to aspx etc...Not all of the downloads work via the 'right-click, save-as' method, some of them you need to left-click the download button and let the server activate the download from the far end...this also happens if you are downloading a file immediately after downloading another and have not waiting the minute or so mandatory pause between downloads, in which case the download button is actually pointing the 'please wait x seconds' message and not the file...

Ron,
I am attaching a screen shot of my compression program, alzip, it handles zip and rar files. Simon's explanation is better than what I am capable of producing right now. Clicking on the Download File button will download the file to your default location or if you see a pop up window asking where to save it, you can then navigate to a download folder. Opening the compressed file will show 4 pdf files, and all 4 of them opened fine in Acrobat. Rick
