This one is not free BUT it may interest the people who are always looking for a cheap alternative to Rhino 3D. It is made by one of the developers of Rhino 3D.

MOI 3D

Found it at this wikipedia article which also lists various free alternatives.

I am working with Blender 3D.

blender.org - Home

Its an OpenSource plattform independent modelling, rendering and animating tool.
Once you got the basics you can do a lot of things (i.e. unfolding 3D models to a surface etc.).
I use it for architectural vizualisation.

Unfold Script in Blender

I have downloaded Blender 2.60 for Windows 7.

How do I locate the UNFOLD script?

I created a mesh>torus and want to UNFOLD it.

Unfold is supposed to be in the SCRIPTS folder but I don't see it.

I have been working with Blender for three weeks.

I want to make a paper model of the Nautilus X.

I've also located a software called Ayam. Its an open-source NURBS modeler. I tried to get it to work on my Linux system, but produced an error "Segementation fault" which is outside my area of troubleshooting. It looks pretty good though, obviously not as extra-featured as Rhino, but the object representations are quite similar.

It only requires Renderman if you wish to render the scenes. I don't believe it's required for object modeling (though I haven't tried it myself).
