As I said I know nothing about this mapping thing so I will just ask 2 questions.
Can you produce a full body completely covered in wrinkles?
Could you then subtract from it an eggbox structure of constant width smooth edged stringers and formers?

Yes that's perfectly doable... You mean I should then produce an image for the tiles separately and afterwards reconnecting them? That could work... Thanks for the idea!

I believe that in theory it is possible. It depends on your designing skills. For example i have boubts that your bullet like object has unfoldable surfaces. But if you want to make a grenade-like shape it looks like it could be possible
