Erm.... it aint free, if you didn't purchase the original CS2 software and go and download and install this, it's technically theft.
Depends on what type of web pirate you are

It's really photoshop 9, and being a user of photoshop 6, it's disapointing as an 'upgraded' peice of software, runs slower than ps6 with not much improvement.
Shiver me timbers.

How do you get theft if it's Adobe giving it away?. They are just hoping you'll by a newer version if you try the old one for free......Rich

I never really had performance problems with my copies of Photoshop until Photoshop CS4. My XP computer had video problems only allowing me to work in CS4 or Lightroom and I had to save often before I ran out of RAM. I started out with Photoshop Elements 7 (way back when) and upgraded from there (CS2, CS4) till where I am at now, Design Standard 5....along with Lightroom. Although, I am still using LR2. I was going to upgrade to LR4 with my new computer since LR4 did not work on XP, but the beta for LR5 was recently announced, so I am going to wait for my upgrade for that one to be released.

Did you not read the red writing on the page you linked to?
Quote:
Adobe has disabled the activation server for CS2 products, including Acrobat 7, because of a technical issue. These products were released more than seven years ago, do not run on many modern operating systems, and are no longer supported.

Adobe strongly advises against running unsupported and outdated software. The serial numbers below should only be used by customers who legitimately purchased CS2 or Acrobat 7 and need to maintain their current use of these products.
Adobe IS NOT giving it away for free, some greedy hippo discovered the download page and said it was free, posted it on huffington post and everyone now thinks it's free, but it isn't, subtle difference?
Can I interest you in a FREE C3PO paper model or is that too sublte?

Because they did put that disclaimer that I quoted above in my first post of this thread. It's for those who did purchase CS2. The only thing with Adobe giving out this version is that it will not phone home to Adobe servers to license the copy....which is good for the customers who did purchase the product in the past because the versions that were out there before this release will attempt to contact the CS2 server which had a meltdown. And that would leave those old copies being unable to be used because they would NEED to contact the servers to validate the serial number and get the green light on the install of the computer.

So now you guys have me confused. Is it free or is it piracy? I love anything free, but piracy is a huge no-no for the paper modelling community. I don't claim to be a saint, but I personally want nothing to do with a pirate. Silver handcuffs would clash with my wardrobe ensemble...

It would be software piracy....IF you had not purchased a copy in the past (sometime in the last 7 or more years). If you purchased a copy of CS2 in the past, you should download the files linked because they WILL NOT attempt to contact the Adobe servers to validate and activate the copy of CS2. Any copy of CS2 on disk or downloaded file that is a version prior to what is in those links would most likely be unusable programs since they have code written into the install packages that make them try and contact the Adobe servers...the very same ones which were deactivated due to problems according to the disclaimers.

It's for people like Darwin who legitimately can't re-install his CS2 version.

It's genuine adobe, it's from their site, but it is piracy, technically, if you don't own it.
I downloaded it thinking it was free as well, but found it a bit slow on my 486.

How is it piracy when the maker is giving it away?.......it says nothing about you needing a previous version to download it.......Rich
