Stop motion scene animation in Sketchup

Fiddling around with my 3d models in sketchup yet to be paperized, I imagined how my transforming vehicles would look transforming on its own and came up with this:

Sketchup robot transformation animation - YouTube

Not quite papercraft yet, but it sure is fun actually seeing the thing moving on its own which used to be in imagination only

Nicely done. I'm going to have to check out your models. I believe this is the first time I have seen a person's website under 'location'. Makes sense

Very interesting. And, knowing Sketchup, very time consuming.

If you wanted to do more of that kind of thing, there was a free software called Antics that directly imported Sketchup models for animations, but it hasn't been updated in so long that I think only Sketchup 6 models work in it. As I recall, it gave you the ability to make components part of humanoid skeleton to move the limbs in coordination with the rest of the body. Though I think for what you're doing, it might be better to make each component an independent model that could be moved by itself.

antics 3d seems interesting. cant seem to find it though. I wonder if it is hard to learn.

Indeed, doing animation in sketchup is not the most efficient way to go nowadays. Doing this makes me think of the old way of animating- hand drawing, and painting each scene individually capturing each frame. . . must have been quite the undertaking. Compared to that, Doing stuff in sketchup is a small miracle. So much can be done in it minus the steep learning curve of other 3d programs. I love is program more and more as I learn to do more stuff in it.

For the meantime, see Leonardo do the Can Can- also in sketchup

turtlecancan - YouTube

Was designing ninja turtle models for papercraft but was distracted to do this instead!
