Wish my DELL XP was still Working
I think I need a new hard-drive and to re-install the OS
Luckily I had to do that shortly after getting it
and that is was Still Under Warantee!!

I Hate 8. the first one I got Crashed 3 of 4 times it 'Updated'
I LOST ALL Software & Settings I had made
Data/files were Not lost, but Software was.
ie, Adobe Acrobat reader, VLC player, Alson, Alplay & Alzip, JustZIPit
Luck those were free, But took SEVERAL time to get Acrobat Reader re-installed
Got to where I made 10+ Copies of the installer as it Erased itself Everytime
I Tried to install!!
Worse, All Free Giveaways from Giveawayoftheday were Lost untill
they ran them again
At least Bitsdujour & Sharewareonsale let me re-isstall as often as I needed!!

Needless to say, I learned my lesson. Updates are set to Check, but Ask me If I am interested!
On at least 1 XP I actually had updates Permanently disabled.
That Tower got stuck in a loop downloading, installing, and rebooting
the SAME 3-4 Updates over & over.
Dumped All updating after that!!!
Now I just need to learn how to stop the banner telling me to update the CRAPTop
from 8 to 8.1!!
It started life as a 7 Machine!!!!

It has been awhile since I checked in on this thread, it has grown.
I have read a lot of reviews about Windows 10, and the consensus seems to be "great OS, except for the major privacy issues and the difficulty of changing default settings."
MS has given itself the right to access information about the customers use of MS programs, the data they generate and store on their disk drives, and their internet usage and requires revealing a lot of personal information in order to install and use many features of Windows 10.
Opting out of this is a very long and difficult process, and may not even be permanent as MS seems to have given itself the right to revert a user's system back to the default settings during automatic updates in order to "optimize the user experience".

I wonder what corporate users of MS are thinking about the new intrusive MS policies since I doubt they will want to share their payroll data or other information generated with Word or Excel or how they use Edge to access the internet.

The new MS license will also create problems for any users in the health care field since MS' abrogating the right to see data generated by clinic and hospital based users of its programs is a potential HIPAA violation.
MS will be able to view confidential information about patients.
It will be interesting to see if the government will prosecute a corporate giant like MS for HIPAA violations or if it will go after the users of MS programs who cannot afford the massive legal representation that MS can.
My guess is that there will be two versions of MS10, a high cost version with default high privacy settings for corporate and European users, and a standard low cost or free license with low privacy settings for US users.

• when you input text, handwrite notes, or ink comments, we may collect samples of your input to improve these input features, (e.g., to help improve the accuracy of autocomplete and spellcheck)."

Windows 10 acts like a keylogger, which is usually considered a malware application.

Some more considerations. The reviews still seem to like the new version, but there are some gotcha's. Some features are now adware (solitaire), or simply require a fee (Media Player).

So who uses Windows DVD player in the first place? Way many free DVD and Blue-Ray players out there.
