I use Linux for my desktop. I like Fedora but many seem to recommend Ubuntu.
I get my install disks here: osdisc.com. They have all of them for $6 each + postage of course. You want a workstation style distribution. Be careful about 32 bit vs 64 bit. cheers Jim Bean |

I use many different variants of linux for different purposes, from RHEL to Ubuntu and several in between.
If you have never used a nix system, I would recommend starting with Ubuntu, as it is a nice entry point, with pretty much all the features you might be useful elsewhere. As for obtaining it, almost all linux distros are free to download. Download an iso file, and then put it on a flash drive to boot off of. if you need any help doing that, please don't hesitate to ask. |

I have used SuSe forever, but only because I always have. (there is some logic there). the video apps seem to work well.
The install and software management are pretty nice, and the install includes Grub (to boot either Windows or Linux - install Windows first, but take the time to set up its own partition). Sometimes the patching seems to get out of synch, and I spend a lot of time watching patches download. |

Hi,
For entry level users I would recommend Linux Mint with Mate desktop. It has a very intuitive GUI and does not need accommodation to new GNOME integrated in latest Ubuntu/RedHat. Also from the upgrade is well maintained and better as starting this year it has a rolling update (meaning you do not have to reinstall the whole system when new versions are released) Happy designing with Penguin PS: I am using Linux as main OS at home and at work for years now. I was using Ubuntu until they integrated the new Gnome. Then I found that Linux Mint is more sensitive to user needs and kept the desktop concepts. And since then I use LinuxMint daily. |

Hi Friends thank you very much for your suggestions
My PC has lost weight with Linux Mint and Ubuntu no problem I found the distributions of which I did not know "PUPPY-LINUX." For the tests I LUCID and SLACKO version of the Live-CD, working with supersonic speed, my computer ever so quickly did not work I must now recall the commands for Linux. In the picture LUCID. Live-CDs recorded on CD / RW, assumes all settings. Regards , Henryk |

Tatasam;
I'll chime in for Linux Mint, I used it until the last iteration did not like my Quadro FX video card. Mint is easy to set up and runs great so long as you do not have any hardware issues. Run the live DVD to check and be sure there are no obvious issues. Best of Luck Formerly Styrene AKA Dave |
