Software used

Sorry if this is already posted elsewhere. (Im super new to this forum). As someone who has a degree in 3D modeling I know how important it is for textures, but even more importantly is a good piece of software. So, what do people use for software?

Thanks,

Tim

Im looking for software that either has an unfolding function/add on or export to pepakura. It has to be easy to use and has a good support network/user forums.

Sketchup is my first thought but not sure about the ease of unfolding.

The only success I have had is with AC3D which I can import sketchup (dae) work in its native type (ac) and then export to 3ds which pepakura can import properly along with the textures so long as you name all the textures with filenames less than 8 characters. final photoshopping is done with paint shop pro 6.0 I'm currently working on downton abbey and the a cruise ship (Norwegian gem) and showing some step-by-step workflows if you search this forum.

I use Ironcad

It has a built in sheet metal design function that will unfold but manual unfolding is easy too with a feature called the "triball".

It is excellent software made for engineers and product designers.

I've used Adobe Illustrator for design since about 1994. 'Got the educational version many years back. I use a later version at work, but still use the old "CS" at home. Most of my shapes are flat sided, anyway.
