Directx is a code that allows Windows to render video and games.

You need to look at decoders/decompiler specific to the video game format, if you want to go that way. But copyright will prevent you from releasing any model from it

A file format is a formal structure for describing some data. For instance, 3DS, DWG, DXF and PDO are nicknames (taken for the filename extension commonly used) of formats able to describe 3D objects. DirectX is not a format, but a set of application programming interfaces (APIs) used by Windows applications to request multimedia-related services. An application could both
  • load 3D data (like faces and textures) from a file stored in a format like DXF
  • once loaded, use a DirectX API like Direct3D to send such faces and textures to a graphics card
But AFAIK DirectX neither directly supports a specific 3D format nor is tied to it.

There are countless 3D formats available, and each application, 3D/game engine and 3D editor supports only particular sets of formats. Instead of mentioning "DirectX", you'd probably better say which application saved or loaded your file: this way someone more knowledgeable could give a hint of which formats it supports and perhaps if there are converters available.

Konginio, as rickstef correctly stated, DirectX it's a software library, not a file format. I'll give you an example: suppose you have an MP3 audio file (a song, a speech, whatsoever). You can use the free software program VLC to listen to it. If someone asked you which type is the file, you would answer "mp3"; instead, if asked you what you used to listen to it, you would answer "vlc". Stating that your 3d model is in DirectX format it's like you tell that your audio file is in VLC format. It's wrong, because the two information (the file format and the program name) are incongruent.

Normally, the name of the file has an extension, separated from the rest of the base name by a point, like in "basename.extension". Also, in general the extension indicates the type of the file, that is the format with which data are stored inside it.
What is the name of the file you are talking about? If you can give us this information, we can help you more efficiently.
