Ryan,
I've been playing with Inkscape a bit and while I can change graphics any way I want, I run into a problem when I try to change colors. For some reason program will not keep values I insert into Fill+Stroke window. Even if it manages to keep the values during inserting, the moment I go back into the main window, everything changes on its own... Another problem I run into is every time I try to print on any paper other than plain inkjet, Inkscape crashes.....

Hmmm. It would be interesting to see this happen as I've not encountered that particular problem. As far as the printing goes, have you tried first saving your project as an SVG and then exporting it to PDF? I don't know that I've ever actually printed direct from Inkscape - probably because my laptop isn't normally hooked up to a printer!

Mystery solved.....
Inkscape only supports RGB values and I've been trying to do the colors in CMYK .... Printing is not really an issue as I can save the page as PDF and print using Adobe Reader (or Photoshop).

I've used PSP in the past and was looking into Inkscape vs. GIMP. Any comments on your preference? I believe that GIMP also has vector capabilities even though it's not billed as such. It also seems to have a lot of documentation. The interface of Inkscape seems a little more user-friendly. I've been told that GIMP equates to Photoshop, while Inkscape is more like Illustrator, though I don't fully understand the difference in capabilities, especially for model design/recolor. I don't mean to hijack this thread, just curious. |

Example: If all you want to to a model is touch up a few markings and weather it a bit - you'd probably be best off using GIMP. However, if the model was designed in vector format and you want to change anything significant on it - vector (Inkscape) is definitely the way to go. Ryan

I've been using Inkscape for years. I keep thinking about building some scripts to unroll conics (given radius/angle/height produce an unrolled conic shape), which would make designing a lot faster, but then I start reading the documentation, and the process looks annoying... Anyone else interesting in something like that?

Inkscape very slow
Hi,
I'm working on my first model (soon a post on it) and I'm in the texturing phase. I decided to give a try to Inkscape, but I find it painfully slow on my laptop (x64 dual core, 4GB w Windows 7). Do you find it slow? Maybe it's only a problem in my environment... but it's almost unusable. thx, fabrizio |

No, not unless you're working with something huge.
