Inkscape extensions for paper models at Fedora Magazine

A recent post MAKE MORE with Inkscape – Papercraft et al. - Fedora Magazine at Fedora Linux's magazine mentions Inkscape and extensions geared towards paper models and other CAM workflows. It's more oriented to unfolding and tabs, though; UV mapping and face snapping are not mentioned at all.

Ultimate Papercraft 3D is mentioned in the article, but the link is incorrect.
Here is the correct link: Ultimate Papercraft 3D - Papercraft Software

And for those who spend most of their time looking for papercraft software that will do all the work of creating paper models,
papercraft3D is just another pepakura type software...that "unfolds" existing 3D models.

All of these extensions for Inkscape, and Papercraft 3D (and pepakura) require you to already have a completed 3D model.
Something created in 3D modeling software or CAD/CAM software.

Unfortunately most of the people looking for the easy-way-to-papermodels
are trying to turn 3D objects from digital games into 3D paper models.
Work that has already been done by someone else
and in most cases is intellectual property and copyrighted material.
This is basically IP piracy.

But even for legitimate modelmakers, there are no easy steps to a completed paper model that you can distribute (or sell)
and there are no no-work/easy-creation papercraft software.

OP has posted a link to a nice article with resources to aid people in bringing their ideas into physical forms.
I appreciate the link, cfuruti, thanks for the post.

This is something we forget and/or turn a blind eye to because someone has made a new model.

It is exactly as Dave says: piracy aka theft of intellectual property.

Don't do it and certainly don't do it here...

Ok. Let's not turn a blind eye to the people who use both Pepakura and Inkscape to design and build their own designs.

No need to take a crap on someone's post that points out legitimate resources for legitimate paper modelers to design their own legitimate and perfectly legal designs to build.
If you guys think that most people who post their creations using software here on this forum are nothing more than IP thieves, and that the spirit of this thread was to aid said IP theft, it may be time for me to leave this forum.
Unbelievable the amount of self righteous bullshit to drop on someone's thread that is trying to just help regular old Joe's make some papercraft of their own.

I take no issue for pointing out and getting rid of pirated models. I take issue with the broad categorization that "most people" who use this software are using it for nefarious purposes. That is simply an unsupported statement. And has absolutely nothing to do with the post that the OP made.

I never said that Cory.
And I didn't crap on anyone's post.
I added a correction since the article link was not working.
It is in fact an interesting software...and a free alternative to Pepakura (I think).

But to be honest, when you've read the same posts many times on this forum of those
looking for software that takes the work and creativity out of papermodel design,
and listened to the number of people who call themselves "designers"
only to find out they "borrowed" 3D patterns from online sources or video games
and used Pepakura to unfold and turn them into paper models,
I admit, I was hoping to head off the inevitable conversations regarding this article and how it will help those sorts.

I, in no way, criticize the article or the softwares mentioned in it.
I DID NOT say "most people"...I said "most people looking for the easy-way-to-papermodels" (meaning those who aren't interested in designing their own paper models or 3D designs).
