Bell X-1
next project is the Bell X-1, the first rocket powered plane to break the sound barrier
it fits together a lot better than the P-38, sofar it has been a delight and as a space nut, what better than to do what "started" the space exploration

i'll leave it as it is, to put the wheels on it, I should have planned for it when putting the bottom spine in place

Did you guys know that the good General Yeager and his lovely second wife, a couple years ago, threatened to sue Fiddlersgreen back to the stone age for selling the X-1 Glamorous Glennis model and uploading the GGJ's pretty face on our website. They were demanding a license and royalty agreement. The model is still there but we've smudged out the Glennis/Yeager bits.
I was fixin' to include their scary threatening email on our X-1 page but it seems their emails are ALSO copyrighted !! chip |

hi Chip
i'm honoured to have you put a comment on my buildthread of "your" X-1 model :D when reading Andrew Chaikin's book "A man on the moon" the chapter on Apollo 8 and the story of Bill Anders, one gets the feeling (at least i did) that Mr. Yeager seems he feels himself a bit above the rest granted he was first through the sound barrier, but then what? my personal view is that he did not do that much more. he has his place in the history books, and should be glad there is still interest in his accomplishment, and that there are people like us (like you Chp) that keeps his name alive, otherwise he would be just a footnote in history but that is just my opinion, not meaning to dismiss what he did, but humility does not seem to be his strong point

Given that you have already modeled planes that flew before the Wright brothers (and help to dispel that myth), maybe you should model George Welch's XP-86 - the first plane to break the sound barrier. George Welch story |
