FGMM - Nubble Light - Cape Ned***** ME
My wife's mom and step-dad own a cottage in Maine and are big lighthouse aficionados (they were married at Pemaquid Lighthouse) so I figured while on vacation and staying a few days with them at the cottage, I'd thank them with a lighthouse model from Maine. FG has a nice model of Nubble Light that I printed the small version of, to adorn the mantle alongside their collection of other plastic and wooden lighthouse models.
After building the three main parts of the model (house, light, and walkway), I needed to build a base as the light sits higher than the house so wouldn't sit flat on a surface. Using model railroad grass sheet and 1mm card (comic book backer board), I scratched together a nice little base and affixed the model's title plaque to the front. This was about a day's work on and off. And some detail shots:

Very well done stock build! You did a really precise job of cutting out the gingerbread facia. Was the base part of the kit?

That's a fine diorama. The grassy base adds a lot to the visual impression.
I'm fond of lighthouses and your model makes me want to try my hand at one of these structures, too. Don |

Thanks folks. No the base was not included. The instructions indicate that you must set the model on something where the lighthouse is 3/4" higher than the house (the instructions didn't change from the larger version - the small version is only about a 1/4"). I didn't just want to prop the model up on a rock, especially giving the model as a gift, so I built the base - just simply freehanded the cuts to make the base and the raised section.
