There isn't one already? Sounds like a good idea to me.

i can't see the need for it. People building a scratchbuilt aircraft can put it in the aviation section already. I'm not bothered if it's scratch built or not, quality may be generally lower for scratch built compared with commercial/readily available models but a previously unmodelled half decent scratchbuilt model put together by a fan of the subject matter will always be appreciated.

I don't really see the need or what it would achieve...last thing I think we need is to go like some other forums and have so many subsections that you can't find anything...

A very needed category. It will separate some of the builds
that are not primarily paper. This would allow the forum build
threads to remain paper or card stock. I have noticed a lot of
scratch builds that do not adhere to this rule.....Ron

Not to sound middle of the road but both sides have valid points. The finished products etc. surely can be placed in their respective catagorys when finished, if the builder so wishes. But more to the point, the tips, procedures, data collection, software usage etc. can be priceless info for some of us wannabe scratch builders.

Let me explain my thoughts on scratch building. If the model is say
90% paper or card stock it should qualify for the normal build threads.
If it is not primarily 90% card stock then it should go into the scratch
build category. It does not mean you have to enter it in scratch
builds if it is primarily paper or card stock. This is just my
opinion and welcome other opinions....Ron

Trying to define what is scratch built can get into a gray area I think.
Does the design have to be completely original to the builder?
Is the person using a few parts from someone elses' design, but adding original work to it, etc.
I think you may end up with a lot of builds, that many won't agree on whether or not they belong there.
Hopefully if this is done, there will only be one scratch building area and not one for each category.
