Approval for downloads

Quick question about something that I have been pondering on, when models are uploaded into the download section are they only vetted to ensure that the model is not pirated or is quality of the model uploaded a factor taken into account in order to get approved?

usually just a pirate check, but no judgement is passed on quality or the like

There is a rating system A, B and so on, but I do not think most bother. If you build a model and find a flaw let the designer know and they will often fix it. If you build a model and really like it, let the designer and the world no by posting it!

I download the file to make sure it works (assuming I work with the software, I leave the .pdo files for others), quick check as Rick noted, and generally scan the pages. I don't try to judge "quality" but rely on the fact that the designer was brave enough to put their work out in public with all the risks that entails. It's up to other builders to weigh in on "quality."
The level of graphics, detail, fit, etc. varies widely among some really nice models - and those who share their work should not be discouraged by an arbitrary evaluation from the likes of me.

I agree, it is not for me to be critical of models that are uploaded and the whole point of the forum for me is to get and receive help and improvements on models that are loaded, i only wondered what the criteria for approval was.

Second question, do you need an author's approval prior to making any changes to the design (of course he would get credit for the original design!) or is it assumed that since you have uploaded other designers are free to change as they want?

I would love to be auto notifed, or a post made automatically every time a new download is available...
