I like this automatic picture slide show.

Can randomly go thru the Gallery section and pick pics from there.

Does the forum software have any provisions for a slide show?

Not knowing anything about how the forum runs, I can't guarantee how well it would work, but this looks promising:

https://www.w3schools.com/howto/tryit.asp?filename=tryhow_js_slideshow_auto

(Been 15 years since I was directly involved in maintaining webpages, kinda nice actually...)

What about a mechanism where the community chooses a picture and it automatically updates the POTW at the end of the vote?

Please keep the POTW, just change the name to Picture Of The Whenever.

Hi All,

And thanks to those who expressed their ideas concerning the topic at hand. It was good to see that Rick and the other admins and moderators have been working on needed improvements to the look of the Home Page. Now that they have a few more suggestions to consider, I hope a solution is close at hand.

As I wrote, I'm a fan of the POTW, and I along with most other members would like to see it continue. However, that seems impractical at this time. Here's hoping that the show runners here can create a new image for the face of the website that will continue to honor the work of its members while offering change on a regular basis.

Score and fold,

Thumb dog

Honestly, anyone (looks at self) who checks this website daily and views more than five threads (not so much lately because of life and work) could probably pick a picture and send it to a mod to be featured... enough energy has been expended on this time thread already to divide it over a year. Maybe we could have bi-monthly volunteers in shifts?

My 2 pence/cents..

I run a website (not modelling related) and I try to do everything possible to automate so as to limit maintenance/intervention. It is incredibly time consuming anyway without having to refresh content.
I've had static homepage pictures and rolling galleries and all get stale without constant change.

As much as it is cool have POTW and the honor that goes with it, if it isn't going to be updated regularly, I would say take it off the home page. Better to replace it with some shortcut buttons to the most used parent sections IMO.

I wouldn't want to part with a picture on the front page. Even an automated slideshow would do.
