Download section scales
Is there a way to preview the files without downloading them first?
I want to download some models at a specific scale, but unfortunately the way they are stored in our Download section, unless the uploader enters the scale in the description, there is no way short of downloading each and every file. I have downloaded many files and only after opening them, discovered that they are these super tiny models which I personally don't build. I then discard the files. May I suggest that from now on, our gate keepers should insist on the uploader enter a scale ( unless it is is a fantasy model where scale may not be relevant ). Isaac

I think that's a good suggestion, and for some weird reason, I find it pleasing to see model files named nicely with the scale next to it... My OCD??

I moved this thread to the Suggestion Box, as it is more a suggestion/comment to how the forum works, instead of being lost in just the builds-aviation subforum which is for builds.
Similar concerns have been made here: downloads And here: Model scale

We can check with the developers of that module, see if they are willing to add that feature/functionality to the module, that only one site would make use of.
And once we have this addition, how do you propose to edit all 3670 files in our download section? One can also try to learn about the members who freely share their kits, and get a sense of what their usual scale is(the description at time is very clear as to who the original designer is)

Rick - perhaps when checking with the developers just an additional comment field (which could be used by PM for scale).
That would be a start. Ask for volunteers to help check the files and give them access. That would deal with some of the 3,000 odd files...

Can the file names be edited by the original uploaders?
if so, ask anyone who has uploaded models to go back and add a scale size to the titles. I know it won't cover every model, but its a start. Specify that anyone adding a model from now on, must include a scale in the title of the model. (Even a rough scale is better than nothing)

Yes, the original uploaders, and the admins and maybe the moderators(need to check on that) can edit the entries.
The title might not need editing, one could add the information to the description, but either method would be fine

so put the word out that you expect the authors to add scale sizes to the existing titles or descriptions.
and future models must include it. it makes good sense and its only fair. and it could account for quite a lot of the downloads (if people help out).

And, in addition to the scale, let's make every designer
list the total page count, parts count, paper size etc. It's a FREE download. Really?
