dear sisters and brothers in paper

please try to reduce the size of pictures before uploading to the forum.
even with a fast internet connection it is quite anoying when a pictere with a resolution of more then 3000 pixels (in one or both directions) it needs 30 seconds to load.

thanks for thinking of others

A very good point. The vast majority of images don't need to be high resolution. A very clear, high quality jpeg can be a few hundred k, whereas a multi Mb image takes longer to download and also uses up storage space - an issue that's already been mentioned. It only takes a few moments to resize them using a graphics program, or you should be able to change the settings on a phone to reduce the image size before taking the picture.

At the moment, this question is moot for me, since I can’t seem to upload photos in any size. The website was unavailable for much of the weekend for me, so I’m speculating that the two issues are related.

Size of picture is a part of the reason why I make all my pictures with old smartphone. Smaller size, better options and for my eye quality seems to be better. I just have to be more careful with pointing it away from sun and light surfaces.

This is also kind of a reason why I use outside picture hosting rather than overload papermodelers server and connection. It makes it easier for end user to choose and load up. Too bad I don't know how to do it while using google photos.

The other thing to consider is that the Gallery in the forum limits the amount of space to each of us. I have reached that limit and can no longer post pictures to the Gallery without removing others. So yes, size matters.

I resize my pictures, crop the edges, and post links in the forum from Imgur.
