Nose Piece

Hi McHale, Yeah, SSF has captured a fairly large part of the the "action figure" modeling clay segment. It's available in just about all craft stores in North America including Michael's. Have fun!...,

A nose piece made by sheeting a segmented paper piece with SSF is provided for your viewing enjoyment. A standard size paper clip in the bottom photo gives an idea of the SSF layer thickness. It was spindle sanded after baking with 120 grit sandpaper and polished slightly with 0000# steel wool.

Of all the different modeling materials commonly available I'm finding SSF one of the most useful over a wide range of applications. On top of that it has a wide range of working properties which make adapting it to a wide range of situations open ended...,

Gil,

For a brief moment there... I thought that was a C-5. Either way, it's brilliant!

Just make sure you have enough card models to make the figures work in the diorama..,

Below is a molded piece made with a re-purposed mold. A sheet of rolled out SSF was placed into the mold and firmed down into position. Excess material was trimmed and the piece baked for around 4 minutes at 275 degF. The center section was cutout with a circle cutter. Sanded it with 120 grit and rubbed with a bit of 0000# steel wool...,

I know that feeling Gil. BTW the Spray desing thread was a gem to find, missed it totally last summer during my leave of absence. I hope that you'll continue it someday.
This thread proved to be good to me too, got new ideas and even a store that sells this stuff in Finland. Thanks for the heads up.
