On the recommendation of a friend and fellow paper modeler, I tried Faber-Castell felt pens labeled "brush".
They work very well and I've ditched my earlier attempts with other products.

Thank you

Thanks everyone for the good reply’s, learning a lot from you all. I’m building this first card model without the use of color on edges that appear.

Prismacolor markers. However, I tend to paint my paper models when finished.

have you considered using watercolor paints? You can blend the colors where as markers have a specific color. A cheap pan set and small brush should cover pretty much everything.
