Lightbox Recommendation
I don't know if this is the right place but I'm sure someone will correct me quickly enough.
![]() For valley folds, I score the obverse side of a cardmodel by making a pinhole at each end of the line to score on the front and connecting them on the other side. My partner has expressed interest in doing appliques, and that means a lightbox. I know I can spend $150 and get an Easy Trace Light Box but that seems excessive. Make magazine had plans to build one, but I'd rather build card models. And it looks like other boxes start at around $20. But I'm sure many of you own boxes you love. And I would love a recommendation. Anybody? Meg Last edited by Megabuttons; 05-14-2023 at 01:59 PM. Reason: Editor added bold for some reason |

A major criterion for me was that it is fully dimmable. I considered a couple of others. They seemed to have various settings, I remember one with three. I don't like looking into bright lights, so fully dimmable was a must for me. A long time ago, I used to have a lightbox with flourescent bulbs and only one, very bright, setting. In addition, it flickered at the rate of AC current, namely 60Hz (in the US). I never really used it but it wouldn't have been comfortable. I don't think a lightbox for $20 would be adequate. |

I have a HUION L4S LED Light Box that I use sometimes. It is powered through USB. It is very thin and the work surface will accomodate USLtr and A4 size pages. I bought it 9 years ago for around $40 USD.
It works good. You can adjust the brightness of the light. I have had no trouble seeing through any of the model pages whether printed by me or the commercial models. ![]()

I used a light box for my first model, 40+ years ago... I would bet that it still works...

I've used the good ole TV in the past. CRT version, but newer flat screens should work. Just find a channel with "Snow".

I got an led light pad letter size at Walmart for $20. I think it was in the Crayola section.
