Sometimes the cutting mat killing all ...

Hello gentlemen,

please, I don't wanna spoil this party here - but I would like to set your view on a vital point - the presentation of you progresses.
A cutting mat is a cutting mat, not a glueing mat, not a base for coloring your models - only a cutting mat.
Please respect your models and your cutting mat! Sorry, but what I see here in this and in other forums - best detailed models presented on robbish and muddy cutting mats. Excuse me, but the cutting mats are sold to a very realiable price all over the world ...
This must be said - sorry for disturbing ....

With lovely greetings
the Wilfried

what are you saying Wil-fired-up? lol

are you saying you don't like seeing photos of models on cutting mats?
you don't like my bright yellowish cutting mat?

I thought photographing my models on a cutting mat was a good idea
because it usually offers a scale reference with the grid on the mat.

or are you just commenting on the state of people's cutting mats?
Some of us have well used cutting mats!

My mat serves multiple purposes...not just for cutting on.
It's also my work surface so I am not working on the table underneath.
I don't care if i get glue or paint on my cutting mat, because thats what it is there for.

So in my case, it must be called my "protective" or "work" mat.

Actually you stated the obvious...mats are much cheaper nowadays...and there are many cheap brands, that can be used and abused and replaced more easily.

Ummm....I purchased the cutting mat, and if I choose to do all my work on it, what difference does it make to you?

I think Wilfried is saying that a craftsman treats his tools with respect. I know I cringe when I see some of the wingnuts at work whaling on the end of a torquewrench to open up a bolt that has frozen up over a few weeks or so.

easy Armorman, correct me if I misunderstood...but this is all in good fun.

I would have to agree, that if I spent $100 on a high end cutting mat,
I probably wouldn't be gluing and painting on it! haha

But I buy cheapo mats just so I can not worry about them.

Maybe Wilfried is commenting on the presentation in photos?
I'm sure he will return to set us straight!

I think the point he was making was more about respecting the tools... I imagine a cutting mat doesnt work as well when covered with glue and paint. totally the concern of the builder rather than others, but I think he was just putting his viewpoint out there...

Personally im cheap and use 3 or 4 peices of cardstock to cut on, glue on, etc, then I just toss them and grab a couple more...

I use my mat for T.V. dinners. It makes for a nice presentation. I have been contemplating using them as place mats for all my dinner guests. I also am thinking og including an X-acto blade by the fork and making everyone cut out parts while there eating.

My cutting mat gets cleaned off when it gets too much crap on it. Glue comes off with hot water and a scraper. I don't have the inclination to move off my mat every time I finish a cut. I have mats on my paint area, my assembly area and my cutting area. However my computer desk is coverd with super glue dots, and they won't come off. I think I will put a cutting mat on the computer desk.
