Hi Lee, I use a straight edge clamped to a bench to cut the strips. Doing a long strip freehand is too dicey. Once assembled the disks surfaces can be flattened by sanding on a piece of sandpaper on a flat surface.

I hadn't thought of clamping down the straight edge. Guess it's because I have to remain mobile to stay ahead of the wife & kids. LOL
