Satin clear finish?

Been a while since I've posted here, but....

Currently building a North American FJ-1 Fury download from Martin Sanger (fabulous kit, BTW). As it's finished in overall non-specular sea blue, I thought a bit of satin sheen would be in order. Is Krylon acceptable for the finish? Will it warp the card?

Thanks in advance,

Kirk

it would work, but lightly

also Dullcote from Testors is good too.

just lightly spray it, I have used Dullcote on my Dodge WC-56 Command Car

I'm about to spray a kit with gloss Krylon Preserve It! - I've never had any problems with it warping the card, but I do spray it lightly with a couple coats. I find normally a couple of coats of gloss gives a satin sheen to the paper. It may depend on the paper though.

That FJ-1 sounds interesting!

USE KRYLON MATTE SPRAY WITH CAUTION!
Too many coats will turn your model white. The white powder that they use to make the clear finish matte will build up and turn your model a chalky white. I use this all of the time to prep my printed sheets before building with out any problems. I have also sprayed it on finished models with different outcomes - some good and some not so good. MAKE SURE YOU REALLY SHAKE UP THE CAN GOOD AND DON'T OVER DO IT
Don't worry about warping, that will be ok.
Good Luck!

Just in case you do accidentally overspray the matte finish, and it clouds your model, not to worry, a good layer of gloss on top of it usually restores the finish.

The beauty of downloaded kits is that if you make a mistake, just print a new sheet. Accordingly, I'll build a dummy section of the fuse and experiment with it a bit using different finishes. Photos shortly.

The FJ Fury was finished in a glossy sea blue. The color match is FS 15042. Gloss clear Krylon works well as a glossy overcoat. Also, Testors makes a golss acrylic that can be sprayed with an airbrush or brushed on. It is similar to Future floorwax which may also work for you.

Plastic model paints works pretty well for me, be it Matt or Gloss varnish

I wanted to use a satin finish as it seems to translate better in scale than straight gloss. I'll try both, tho', on some dummy parts prior to finishing the model as I have a hunch that the card will soak up a lot of the "gloss". I will, however, use Future on the canopy. Hope to plunge mold it using a Monokote heat gun over a balsa plug.
