Tab and slot base
I tend to travel alot with my displays. While I use wooden bases for display, I would like to try
and find/make something considerably more light weight (card stock). I have searched, and found nothing suitable. Does anyone know of a "tab and slot" type of base? I think this would be ideal for my situation, and possibly others, as it would lay flat when unassembled, and be lighter to carry. I should add, I am of course looking for something printable, so I can add my own graphics. Thanks!

Not exactly what you were asking for, but you are looking for 'cardstock' and 'fold-flat'
Marcos Hidalgo created the I-Kubes for fold-flat buildings for wargaming. Quote:
Very ingenious design. If you make the walls shorter, you could have your customizable bases in a file folder for your travels toposolitario.com

Not sure Ray but the comic book backing board may be useful. If I recall some had a gloss side that made them stiffer than regular cardstock. Picture frame backing boards may work as well.

A question, do you want something that is one piece?
To be folded so that fits into your luggage? What about something slotted like the Beer Bottle divider packaging from the market where one plane of card stock slides into another unglued so they form in an egg crate fashion? With a decorated top. Jeff P.S. I am assuming traveling with 1/144th scale versus 1/33. |

I'm guessing you need something that folds up like a banker's box lid, but smaller. I can whip something up if you want. I just need dimensions.

Thanks Aaron, but that would be to much work. 4" x 4" would be a standard size.
Then, I could resize the file/drawing into any size I needed.

Need to glue two tabs and then this will lay flat or insert tabs into envelopes to make into base. 1/2" x 4" x 4" 2023 Folding Base.pdf If it works I can upload one to the download section or you can move this one as needed. Assuming you wanted a square base,6,8 sided are possible as well Just tested the prototype: 16.9fl oz water bottle depressed it a little, not much... (Index 110#) Mike
