Same old compliment:
"I wish I thought of that!" I also like the fact that I's very colorful. |

rat lines and railings
Brilliant solution to a problem that most probably has caused headaches for years. What adhesive was used ?

I first tied the combs into the square using string, and then globbed with 2-part 5 minute epoxy glue. really strong stuff. I realized pretty quick there was no reason to use the wider prong side, only the narrow was necessary and for a wider results, just skip every other prong. Wrap the thread around the higher set of combs first, and then the cross string pulls down on the first set of strings. you'll need a spacer for the back side if you want to do two "sheets" of thread at one time. Anyway, I used cotton thread, then I dunked it in water. I then painted on a watered down solution of white glue onto the netting gently. The glue still webbed over the tiny squares quite a bit, so I blotted it with tissue to break the glue webbing. after it dried, i did a second coat, same way, and then finally I used crazy glue with a brush applicator to make everything really stiff.
By being specific about skipping some prongs, and counting loops, you can easily make a host of patterns, ratlines, railings, whatever and all spaced exactly and evenly. |

Thank you for sharing an ingenious jig. This is one item that I will definitely use, not only for ship building but for other models as well, ie: engine gratings, safety nets and fencing.
