Dark or Light are really just a concept.
Light and dark are also relative. As I turn out the light in a room, the lack of light saps the colour until you are left with only grays. Some might call that "darker" colour. You have to introduce other colours to create a new colour. A new colour that you might call "dark". It can depend on so many things, like the transparency or opacity of the medium you are using. In painting we often use a opaque colour wheel, and introduce the opposite colour to create darkness or shading. So, in that method, the answer to your question would be, add purple/violet (red+blue) But this is based on a common red/blue/yellow colour chart which also uses light as a colour influencer. (In light "white" is the presence of all colours, black is the lack of all colours) But, darkening or shading the colour is only one part. If you wanted your "dark" yellow to be more red, you'd add more red to the mix. Or your "dark" yellow could be more towards green, or more towards... This is why I like being colourblind.

Another point is that while people talk about lighter colors - as a photographer, a lot of what you see is so totally dependant on where you are in relation to the light. Into the sun vs away from the sun can make all the difference in how an object is perceived.
