I was 18...I learned to never cut to your thumb with and exacto blade, you will find the thumb becomes 2 parts. at 3;00am. Just because the doctor lives next door does not mean he is excited about sewing ones thumb back at 3:30am
Papertrain What are instructions?? I have 5 HP printers...1 has any ink in it and all 5 take different cartridges. Sometimes it is cheaper to buy a printer than the ink |

Uhh...let's see...
1.Answering a phone call and leaving my model vulnerable to Crush/bend/slashed/stabbed/destroyed,or whatever physical offenses you can think. 2.Went to a 1-week trip with Aircraft Carrier to be built and 10% left of white glue. 3.Too obese with games and forget about paper models lets say for about...1 week. 4.Finished models with no plastic container but use your hand to hold it until you got home from your 1-week trip, while having 5 hours of trip to home.DON'T DOZE OFF! 5.Forgot to have something to hold your model while it dries.it ends up in trash anyway. That's what i can think of right now... Cheers, Daus |

Here is my biggest no-no so far...
Don't use your thumb and index finger to clamp down on a piece that you just superglued together. The part gets ruined when you have to cut your fingers apart with a razor blade. Another less painful thing that I have been guilty of is not test fitting parts carefully enough before gluing. Once, I discovered that I had glued a former in backwards which had to be corrected before I could proceed with the skinning process. Make sure you understand the Polish translation for L & P (left and right). This was not too difficult to fix, but never the less it had to be corrected. No stab wounds as of yet...and I hope to keep it that way :D |

10 things I did RIGHT...
ever the optimist (heh!) i decided to respond in a positive fashion. for most of these, you should be able to read between the lines and figure out what i did wrong. feel free to use your imagination...
1. the only scalpel i had, from an old biology di-section kit, i threw away. 2. realized designing models can be a lot of work. eventually, you can run out of time to build your own stuff! 3. learned to use just about any edged knife-like tool to score smoothly and in a balanced manner. 4. started coloring edges and learned not to try and mix acrylic paints to printed colors in anything but natural light AND too have it at the right consistency. the only thing worse than too much glue is too much paint (usually). 5. learned to save files to back-up sources AND in varying formats. 6. learned that "you win some, you lose some, and sometimes the game is rained out". 7. developed an eye for detail... from noticing a "common" item or component as just the right thing for model "X", to learning how to design curved thingies.... 8. learned about cameras and photographing small models IN focus. 9. started researching colors and diagrams for models more. 10. realized that sometimes you should walk away from a model for a while. for some, a long while (see #6 above). cheers! |
