Flex Cables

Hello All,

I've been working on a new model that has a ton of Flex Power Cables and thought you all would like to see how they are achieved.

First roll a tube with segment marks on it. Roll it on a tube the right size as it needs to be on the tube for cutting reasons.

Next slip the end off just a bit and start the segment slice. When through a little slide the tube back till the blade hits the end of the tube. Use the tube end to guilde the rest of the cut.

*Important* let the tab that joined the tube be a cut stop so cut slowly. A dull blade could be helpful here. Repeat the slip off and slice method till done. You should leave the last 2 segments and put the cable back on the tube to put it back into proper roundness. When you do make sure the 1st cut end goes on 1st so now the last 2 segments are on the end making it easier to slice.

Bend each segment a little as you pull it off the tube. Now there is one thing I've yet to figure out completly. As it's flexed it shows a void in there. I'm thinking of running either wire or thin cut strips of paper through the segments to simulate the inner cables.

Hope this trick proves useful to someone :D

I personally like them empty like that. Reminds me of a coiled power cord of sorts. But I don't know what look you are going for so that may not apply here.

Nice effect! I especially like the idea of using the end of the tube/dowel as a guide to make uniform cuts - clever technique!

Very nice work! I'm not sure which way I'm leaning I was going to say it would almost be worth it just to cut everything out of black cardstock and then do it so you don't get the white inards showing, but I think I like the contrast. Some really fine doorbell wire would look cool running through there as well.
