creating formers
question for all you designers
how do i go about creating formers? i'm using sketchup/pepakura and so far i'm just creating a havoc of mess trying to do a model of the optimist sailing boat, my brother in law and his brother had a home built one as kids some 40+ years ago and i want to make them one as i see it i need formers to keep the shape of the boat but 'm just messing up, so all help/tips much appreciated if not, does anybody know if there is a model of an optimist? free or not doesn't matter

I personally would like a quick tutorial on modeling formers, not so much the modeling, but how to pick the best layout and work it to gether to make a nice structure...

"Hulls" includes a file with all you need for the hull of an Optimist - formers and developed panel shapes for stitch and glue. The program can be dowloaded as http://www.carlsondesign.com/hulls.zip from near the bottom of Carlson Design Plotter/Cutters Unzip into a seperate folder as there are a lot of files involved. It runs on it's own without being installed. It should not take too long for you to work out how to extract the information you want.
Edit - converted the "Hulls" Optimist file, edited and rendered it in a Cad program - Last edited by looker; 09-03-2010 at 12:02 AM. |
