Hello John

Happy New Year.

Well I just finish a model following some of you rigging tips, i use some of your techniques, unfortunately not all, I had to use ordinary thread but I tried to follow the advice of making the rigging while building the model and not afterward.

Here a few shots.

I was using the high "E" strings I had left over from my electric guitar. The worked well, if you pull them. anchoring one end, they stretch and then harden and can be cut to length. The also add rigidity to the wings. I think your method is better though. It is far more controllable. I imagine it would work really great for small sailboats also. Great tip, another worth being in a sticky section.

A method of `structurally rigging` That i use for my flying models is carbon fibre rod.
The process by which carbon fibre rod is manufactured makes it easy to spilt.
It`s strong, and light.

Great that you tried this out. Your results look good. What are your thoughts about the technique? Easy, hard, good, bad, etc.

The other ideas above are good ones and always welcomed. I would think tippet would work well for ships too. Buildinging it in from the start may be very complex, depending on the ship (like the POTW HMS Victory). Thanks much for your interest and keep on rigging!

Hello John

Before reading your manual I tried several times to make the rigging after building the model with frustrating results. It is not easy for me to work with wayward wires, I have bad eyesight and I'm clumsy.

Your main revelation for me was to incorporate the rigging to the model assembly, so I did in this case using only 4 wires that sat in the wings and fuselage before the final paste and then tightening the threads, i glue the threads with white glue at the point sticking out of the extremity of the wings, after drying I just cut the remaining thread.

I'll try to get very thin fishing line and make more progress using your technique.

Way cool - looks like you got it! The Gee Bee is actually pretty tricky to rig, with two wires transitioning to one wire. Looks like you did okay. Here's my FG Gee Bee Z at 1/72 scale.
