Swedish Vintage Sailplane Fi-1, 1/16 scale

This is a 1/16 scale paper model of the Swedish vintage sailplane Fi-1 (No 1 designed & produced at the AB Flygindustri, Halmstad) in 1942-45.

The model is based on an original 1/34 paper model designed by Aaron Murhphy and available as a free download from this site. The 1/16 scale version here is totally redrawn, repainted, and rearranged, but the main part outlines follow Aaron's design. Transparent canopy, fully detailed interior structure, and many other details have been added.

There are full sets of parts for two versions of this model included in the kit, one in the original cream & red, and one unpainted, in natural doped fabric & wood, finish. They can be built in any combination. My own testbuild was made from the bone-white & red painted version of fuselage pod and tailboom, while wings and tail feathers were made from the wood & fabric version parts. There may never have been such a combination, but it has a beauty of its own, and invites the builder to appreciate the craftmanship involved in manufacturing an aircraft like this one.
