Here is a MiG-21UM in Indian Air Force Colors. It's actually a private jet from Australia registered as VH-XXI. There a video on Youtube showing it in flight in India in 1994 : 1994 Mangalore Air Show Mig 21 VH XXI - YouTube

Quoting from Rata: "From what I can ascertain, VH-XXI was ex Polish Air Force 5011 and owned- and presumably flown by him- from 1992 by one Richard Macintosh of NSW. Licence to operate was cancelled in 2006 after which it resided on display at Fighterworld Newcastle but has now been moved to be on display at the HARS Aviation Museum (which has an airworthy Lockheed Constellation) in Albion Park, also NSW."

Edit 2023-04-13:

India's affair with the MiG-21 started in 1963-1964 with 6 MiG-21F-13 (BC816 to BC821) and 6 MiG-21PF (BC822 to BC827). Two F-13 were lost in a collision in 1964 a few month after delivery and 2 PFs were destroyed on the ground in a Sabre attack during the Kashsmir War of 1965. One F-13 and 4 PF survived that war. Two of those PFs still exist today as gate guardians and so does the lone F-13 (as a teaching aide at a technical college). Some of the 4 PF were upgraded in the late 1960ies or early 1970ies with the radar and engine of the MiG-21FL. It seems they were also modified to carry the GP-9 gunpod if the presence of the defector plates means anything. They also lost the first letter of their serial with BC822 becoming C822.

Here are 3 of those early Indian Fishbeds :

- MiG-21F-13 BC821, sqn 28 circa 1964-1965
- MiG-21PF BC827, sqn 28 in the 2nd half of the 1960ies
- upgraded MiG-21PF C822 (former BC822), some time during the 1970ies
