Yep, those are some big blades and you can climb up inside the tower they are mounted on in order to service the generator and gears.

Point of clarification: This is not a fan, whose purpose is to create air movement by mechanical means, but rather a wind turbine. Its purpose is to create mechanical motion (and from that generate electricity) from moving air.

Having said that, yes, these things are huge! Saw several from the air last week in Colorado.

Some of my brother electricians have told many stories about "working the wind farms".

I've had the privledge to get right up to those things on the truck and standing, they are simply HUGE!

Some where in Nebraska (Can't remember where) there's a rest area that has one of the blades bolted to the ground vertically. It's really tall.
