I've also had a go at a few of these wonderful old kits. I've been on a very demanding schedule the last month or so, but seeing Don's work gave me the itch to build a couple of these. I had a workday with some good time in between waiting for paint and glue to dry, so all of these (save the operator in the last photo) were all done on the same day. So forgive any assembly discrepancies that may be painfully obvious!

Here's a Japanese light tank. The original kit is B&W, but I just had to add a little color.
Here is an obvious attempt to capture the Sherman's unique lines;


This next one is the char lourd mentioned in Don's thread. I didn't build it as the wheeled, rolling toy originally designed. I tried to make it more of a model; well, a tiny bit more.


The last full build of the day was my favorite. An artillery piece;

I just enjoyed the way this one went together.
And lastly, I even managed to complete a scaled down version of the ichiyama toad available as a free download. It's been sitting half-finished for probably a year or more! Here he is manning the field piece;

All in all, a fun day, especially as I got all my regular work done for the day as well. I think Don has the links for all of these except the toad in his thread.

As I said in my thread, Chris, these are little works of folk art!

They have a special charm and I enjoy seeing how you have made a few modifications (a little layering of the heavy tank hatch, and cylindrical vice square cross-section gun barrel; coloring of the Japanese tank) that add a lot to the appearance.

I hope to get one or two of these built over the weekend, but in any event, I certainly enjoy seeing these models of yours.

And the frog is nice.

PS: I meant the frog comment in a good way. There is a Korean expression, Malli cho-ta, which means, "The horse is nice."

It dates back to the days when one of the biggest events in a rural person's life was their marriage. The bride would dress up as a princess and, with her brothers and sisters, stand outside the farmhouse awaiting the arrival of the groom, whom she had never before seen (the marriage having been arranged). The groom would arrive dressed as a prince and riding on a borrowed horse. As he approached, the bride had to keep her eyes cast down, so she could not see him, and the story goes that the siblings would tell her, Malli cho-ta. At least the horse is nice.

I don't know if the expression is still used today, but when I lived in Korea, Malli cho-ta meant "meh."

Your frog is nice, but the field gun is definitely NOT "meh."

Good one, Don. I do hope to do a few more of these vintage kits. For some reason I find them really rewarding, even as simple as they are.

Great builds Chris. Looks like you will need all that armament to defeat the giant frog invasion.
