An Oasis when you need one...

Well, it's been awhile since there's been any activity here in the Vintage corner and I'm as much to blame as anyone. I'm going to try and contribute more frequently and for a start I'm sharing a recent build by my assistant and ace model builder, Alexandra, of this Pellerin Oasis.

It's a surprisingly complex little diorama of a scene that may still be current in some parts of the world.

Making those parts thicker really adds to the finished product.

Hi All,

And hi, Tom. Send along kudos to Alexandra for her build of the Pellerin Oasis. Her ability to cleanly carve all those sinuous trees from that thick cardstock is noteworthy. As for the model itself, it’s lucky that the sun damage and oxidation on the edge of the paper missed the all parts of this rare model.

It looks as though the oasis' three sources of water might be segregated along cultural lines, with one for men, one for women and the last for camels. And from what I can see, I think Alexandra mirrored the pair of standing camels so they would be more comfortable while drinking from their special trough. Well done, all around.

Score and fold,

Thumb Dog

That's indeed a greatly crafted oasis and by itself a very charming vintage model. A lot of cutting! The scenery is quite serene.

Cheers,
Erik

Nicely executed diorama! The subject matter, the artwork, and the many small details make for a very interesting piece.

It's really quite helpful to have one! Seriously, though, her skills have gotten to the point that I'm afraid whatever contribution I might make would just mess things up...

My main role these days is deciphering the instructions (if there are any) and creating missing parts and reverse sides.
