New girl

Hello every body I am Stephanie. I am new to paper modeling because I came across the Canon website and noticed they had a chipmunk. I really love animals and I want to make a few.

Paper modeling looks quite hard, any tips?

Hi StephanieDonner;

My most useful items for card modeling, apart from my inkjet printer and a stack of blank card stock, are a couple of pairs of craft scissors and an assortment of exacto knives with a cutting mat. One pair of scissors are Cutter Bee, and the other is a Fiskars microtip. The exactos come in handy for cutting out those really small bits like windows in cars and ships, etc. So as my fellows above have suggested, just print off a couple of models (animals) and try them out.

I also have this cool dimensional glue I got at a scrapbooking store called "Gloo" it is crystal clear and great for the eyes on birds or the headlights on cars. Not too many uses for it, but great results.

Welcome to the site.
The Tips And Tricks or the Tips And Techniques sections have a lot of good information on paper model building.

Welcome. The Canon one-page animals are a great place to start. Get some practice on those, then move up to some of the more complex models or some of the Kei Craft models (his models are on many sites, so do a search for Kei Craft and you will find several) There are some great blogs, like papermau, that are a fantastic resource for models

Welcome!

By coincidence, long-time Forum member Mike Stamper, who usually does spectacular architectural models has recently done a series of cute Canon creatures: http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/o...n-animals.html

There are a lot of paper bird and animal threads in the Forum.

Looking forward to seeing your paper models.

Don

Tips:

1. Print model on 67 Lb cardstock. (Plain paper is too hard to work with.)

2. Score fold lines with something dull (dry ballpoint pen, crochet needle, etc.) Do the scoring on top of a piece of cardboard to get a good score. Scoring on a hard surface does not work well.

3. Elmer's white glue will work but Aleene's Tacky Glue works much better.

4. A cheap plastic kitchen cutting mat will work as well as the expensive cutting mats sold in hobby stores.

5. Touch-up the white edges to make the model look better (colored pencils, acrylic paint, etc.)

Good Luck !
