Hello from Vermont!
Hello all,
I've been building plastic kits since I was a kid and scratch-built wooden models for almost as long, but I'm new to paper modelling. I enjoy all models but tend to focus on ships for the simple reason that the finished models fit on my shelves more easily than planes! Randy |

Hello and welcome. Now that you’ve discovered paper modeling, you may not want to return to plastic, or wood, again. Take some time to get familiar with all this site has to offer. Lots of helpful people here and good advice.

Welcome. Cut your teeth on a few free models before you start buying a whole lot of pre-printed intricate models. You need to get a feel for how paper behaves

Part of where I caught the bug from is that I have a fascination for US armored cruisers and although a scratch-built Tennesse-class is still in the works for some day, I saw that Orel offered a paper kit of USS Brooklyn and I bought it, thinking it seemed interesting. Looking at the kit, it is, indeed interesting, and a whole other avenue of challenge.
I am going to build a CSS Virginia that I downloaded first, in order to get a feel, but I won't probably be able to hold back from the ACR for very long. When I do start that project (USS BROOKLYN), I'll most likely scan the sheets before cutting so that if/when I mess something up I can make replacement parts. I think that's a good plan. |

That is a very good plan. My ships never turn out well, but I'm sure some of our experts can help you out if you run into a bind.
