Welcome aboard shipmate, I am sure you will find lots of hints, tips and inspiration here. Regarding HMS Lion, JSC do a fine kit of her in 1/250 scale and is a bit more forgiving to new modellers in this media.
I also served in the Royal Navy from the early '70s and was based here in Scotland for a few years.

Greetings my friend. I have now picked up the 1:200 GPM model, so I am hoping I can manage. I want to make her waterline though.

I was in a Rosyth based ship for a while. Happy memories.
