Howdy everyone. Anxious to get started on scenery for HO slot car track for the kids.

My wife and I recently retired and moved to Colorado. We have a large extended family and I put together a HO slot car track for all the kids. Looks kind of bare so looking to add more interest with buildings and other thing-a-ma-jigs. Saw some pictures from the forums so I'm sticking my toe in the pond.

What brand of track do you have, sir? I had both Tyco and AFX

Are you going for more of a racing setting? Rural? Urban?

tyco track but looking to expand

it is a racing theme... Indigo Trails Raceway. This is based on the name of our neighborhood. Its on a 4x8 sheet of plywood. Masonite around three sides and I printed racing signs on shipping labels and stuck on the inner wall. Mix of real corporate logos and signs were each family members is reflected. For example, I have a nephew who just breaks everything. His sign says, " Oliver's Dismantling Service. If we can touch it we can break it." Most are funny references. It really looks good but the landscape is just track and I want something more interesting. Do have to be careful that things can be replaced as the young kids just can't keep the hands off stuff. Thanks for asking.

Never had slotcars but that never stopped me from appreciating the papercraft accessories, here's a few more links:

pedemann online

Papercraft and paper models - Slot Car-Union

And paper model scales can be reduced (like 1:32 to 1:43) by printing multiple pages (2, 4, 9 or 16) pages per sheet (A4 or letter). If you print from your browser, sometimes you can open a print menu where you can specify the exact percentage to reduce, so experiment with it!

Here's an example: printing a 1:32 model in A4 page format onto 4 pages per A4 sheet gets you 1:64, onto 9 pages per A4 sheet gets you 1:96, or onto 4 pages per A5 sheet gets you 1:91 (close enough to 1:87).

In the early ‘60s we got started in HO with an Atlas track. Couldn’t afford the cool plastic accessories so I designed paper models from magazine photos of racetracks. What a great way to fill out your track. Have fun and welcome.

Yep,

Remember going to the track down the street, used big cars and had 8-lanes, with actual races happening. Charged a fee by the hour or half hour. Bring your own car, or if you couldn't afford one, they had cars you could rent.

Around that time, seem to remember Zippo lighters were a thing, BIC was a newly released ink pen, years later, what do you mean its a lighter?

Welcome to the site-you have a great sounding family. Can almost see Oliver!

Mike

As for Dave's Card Creations webpage, I found the left-sided main menu incomplete: the "Tee Shirts" and "Free Models" buttons are not connected to any links. However, trying to intuitively modify the web address, I discovered that the "Free Models" are available at: https://davesdesigns.ca/dcc/html/free_models.html
