Realistic Birds from Johan Scherft

Hi all,
It's a long time since I posted anything, so I thought I'd share some wonderful little models that I've built in the office recently. I like to build while I'm on the phone to keep my hands busy! (I use a headset, in case anyone was wondering )

Three free models from Dutch artist Johan Scherft can be found here:
papercraft Johan Scherft

Have a browse through his gallery at the bottom, some of his works are beautiful. All are hand crafted and painted by him, and I must say they're among some of the most realistic models I've ever come across. They go together really well, perfect fit, with minimal edge colouring needed.

I have built all three that he has released so far, and I submit for your critique!

They look very good. Have you done the hatching dinosaur?

I haven't! It doesn't really grab my attention. The birds I can identify with since I've seen two of them in my garden, and the kingfisher we get on waterways here in Ireland. Don't really see many dinosaurs though!

Have any cats to drive crazy with those? They look very real.

Very nice work!

They are very real - I started one and had it shredded! Starting another - will do a build thread as the construction is quite interesting.

Thank you for the kind words!
I would like to reprint these with an inkjet to see how they turn out. These were done with a colour laser printer, and I just feel that they're a little too glossy for the subject matter. If I do, I will remember to take build pictures next time!

Try using a semi gloss matt spray.

I used this on mine and it looked great just prior to destruction!

I use the Citadel (Games Workshjop aka Warhammer etc) Satin Spray. Expensive, but high quality and lasts for plenty of models.

I use the Krylon products, Gloss, Satin and Matte. Seem to do a good job. Just have to remember that multiple light coats is better than one heavy one.
