Received Johan Scherft Beautiful Paper Birds today.
It comes in a box You open the box and you see a booklet of instructions and a small bottle of glue The model sheets are under the booklet and glue section and are loosely bound by a narrow strip of paper There are 36 sheets, each one is 8.5 inches/216 mm by 9.5 inches/242 mm and are 0.14 mm thick which works out to be around 28 lb bond/105 gsm so just a little thicker than regular printer paper. It should collect dust just fine.

Now I daren't go out in case the postman brings mine ...
I'll have to recheck Amazon UK to see if it's in stock yet. Johnny. No such luck ... It's still listed as publishing on the 18th. Last edited by JohnM; 10-10-2013 at 05:04 PM. |

Whilst in a jealous sulk about Doug getting Johan's book before me, I cast around for a bird to pass the time ... and opted to try the free samples at Raspera ... Welcome to Raspera.
One is a bird ... a Blue Footed Booby ... It makes up quite well, but much of it's underside is missing . Very handy for getting the fingers and burnishing tools inside, but you have to be careful with the camera viewing angles. The other two samples aren't bad either, but they're not birds .. ... I think I just might be parting with a few dollars to get their download password for a few more. Next up though will be the ZardOz Bantam ... for Wadcutter's Wife. http://www.jade.dti.ne.jp/~zardoz/papercraft/index.html Only ten parts, on two A4 pages, but there's 53 photos on the 'How to' pages. I'll be making it A4 size first to see if it's worth blowing up to A3. Keep on snippin' ... Johnny. |

There ya go Mrs WC ... tell 'im it only took an hour and a half...
Whoa, that's a nice bit o' tail ya got there me ol' cock! WC ... It ain't so straight forward, but just follow ZardOz's photos and you'll get there OK. The pics aren't superb and it's not always obvious what he's showing you, but every one of the 53 pics does have something to tell. Keep on snippin' ... Johnny. |

I've now delved into the Marubun Hall blog on Java Sparrows ...???:Java Sparrow Paper Models - livedoor Blog?????
I decided to make the white ones first (One each of the old and new designs) so that the construction and seams were more obvious and easier to study for pimping. Although it is a much simpler build, I'm quite taken with the older (Slimmer) design, but the later (Round) design is ready made in a much wider range of colours. I guess I'll just have to poke them into The Gimp and attempt some re-colours of the older design, eh? Just until Johan's book turns up that is ... Johnny. |

Actually, the rounder ones look more like the real ones. They have a couple in the aviary at my grandmother's nursing home. They arrived about a month after I started building these and just leaving them around on cabinets and in the flora. They have both the all-white, and the grey with the white cheeks in the birdcage. The round ones look much more like the real thing

I saw that on the "Cats" thread and nearly asked for it's origin, but being a bird lover I decided to stay out of that thread for now.
It looks an excellent build though Asaf and has promted me to put it on me build list. Just finishing off a 'Kevin' myself. No, not the South African one , the South American one, from Up ! Johnny. |
