The way the body curves and folds and forms into the proper bird shape...is ingenious.
I would love to see Scherft's process for creating the unfolded body.

I would assume, since he is an artist/painter, that he forms a papier mache style body,
paints it, and then cuts it up (unfolding) into a flat part.
And then adds tabs.

I'm guessing that since he has been doing this for a while, that he does not use CAD.
Does anyone know any different?

(...) I usually begin by sketching the bird...
I make a few test patterns from plain paper. I experiment with a design for the basic shape using 3D computer programs...
There is a lot of trial and error necessary before the correct shape is achieved...
Once the design is satisfactory, I begin painting the template. (...)
