Johan Scherft - The hatching Deinonychus build
All,
I started this project nearly 3 years ago for my spouse. Owing to family and work obligations I wrapped it up and put it in a case shortly after Christmas 2021. I envisioned this project as something artistic for her plant-filled work desk and it ultimately became a Christmas present. Tremendous credit to Johan for making this very fine template available, and for free! This was printed on my color laser. With the hatchling especially, I added a bit more texture by using very dense watercolor and layering paint on top of the original print. This build is far from perfect in a technical sense (ie, builder errors), but they are disguised by the dinosaur's textures and the fact the fact that the joints in the egg sort of suggest an idea of cracking. The vegetation is dried moss and random interesting looking plastic foliage from the floral section in Michael's. I look forward to taking my next partially-complete project out of mothballs. I also look forward to doing another Scherft model in the future. It is probably overly optimistic, and Johan has released many of his fine models online as templates, but I would love to see his tree frog and deep sea fish models become available for purchase someday, Happy 2022 everyone! |

Nice build. I have made it a few times, but because of the "action" feature never ever thought of a diorama. A great idea!
