Well, I'm going to have to do some homework, and I don't know where to start. Since I'm doing an AC130 for a friend in honor of her late husband, and will be doing a JU-88 for another friend in honor of his father, now my mom would like me to do a P-40 in honor of her uncle whose plane crashed in North Africa. Where is a good place to start on my research for the color scheme for US North African campaign P-40's?
That's a nice model, Jarrod

Here might be a good place to start Vermin King, P-40E 1/5 scale by Bruce Watson
Not so sure on the country, but looks like it would be the same for the U.S. version

Unless I can get a definitive 'correct' scheme, I was thinking of doing coloration similar to Zio's Kittyhawk 2, but using American markings. But since this one isn't as pressing as the other two builds, I have a little time to think it through. What I wish I knew how to do is take the Green portions and turn them into another shade of Brown or Tan. Give it more of a desert camo feel.

If you do a Google Search for "P-40, North Africa" on the image search you will see many P-40s which have the sand/earth camo. But, you will still need to find out the unit to get the correct unit markings as well as any nose art if any .

My mom has those from the letter from Sandy's commander to his sister after he crashed. He was buried in Alexandria 'temporarily' and is there to this day.
