I'm sure they have plans to restore it. Right now they're working on repainting and restoring the planes they have on display, of which there are hundreds, and some of which look in worse condition than the WB-57.
This is from their own site: "The Restoration Department of the Pima Air and Space Museum has a large backlog of aircraft to be restored for the first time at the museum, aircraft being refurbished after several years on display and various pieces of equipment used in support of aircraft to be prepared for exhibit. The local facility has also recently restored aircraft, equipment and vehicles for the Titan Missile Museum in Green Valley south of Tucson." As to the WB-57; anything not metal has been removed, and is probably in storage in their restoration hanger, the canopy has been covered to protect the cockpit, and as to the rest of the plane, the only thing getting worse is the paint is fading. Right next door is the Air Force's facility for storing excess and retired aircraft: AMARG. The environment down there is so dry that planes can sit for decades without degrading. I've seen aircraft that haven't been in active service since the 70's that look as fresh structurally as the day they were retired...minus any useful parts of course. |

Niiice! I like how you made it to fit in the bomb bay.

It takes some selective slicing and dicing to get it into the bomb bay. I had to carve a chunk of the wing spar out. I put marks where to cut to get everything to fit.
Oh. One of the B-57's is up: http://ecardmodels.com/martin-canber...el-p-2855.html Last edited by murphyaa; 07-20-2012 at 11:25 PM. |

Not a no. I tend to design what comes to me and what I'm in the mood to design. Right now I'm feeling Japanese and Gliders.
Plus I need to gather more information on the OH-58. It's got a lot of complicated curves, and I have to plan out how to best represent it in paper, which doesn't handle complicated curves very well. |

The bird was a transit aircraft at Elmendorf AFB, in Alaska. It was the summer of 1970 when it arrived. I do recall it having "Weather" on the tail, as we had one or two Weather WC-130s (along with several HC-130s) assigned to the base. I thought it might be a new aircraft assigned to the weather people to go with the WC-130s. But I never saw it after that one time.
