UB-16 WWI U-Boot in 1/100th Scale by DRAF Model

All,

After finishing a rather demanding airplane, I decided to try a smaller job that I hope will be a slightly quicker but no less satisfying build. I like submarines and I've not seen many models of early WWI era U-Boots so this one caught my eye. It's a new model from around 2021 and I even splurged and got the laser cut parts.

I hope to make good progress once I start!

Cheers,
Dan

The laser cut formers go a long way towards a quicker assembly.

Looking forward to an "antique" submarine.
We don't get to see many of those.

Thanks a lot, Folks...so far, it's really a nice model.

Here are some shots of the pressure hull being put together. The only tricky part was the forward torpedo tubes but they fit very well once I figured out how they went together.

Nice...Dan

Got the keel and stiffeners (?) on the hull. Deck should be next and then it'll start looking like a submarine!

Thanks, Wyvern! Now I'm trying to figure out how the top deck goes on without making a mess. I got this far with the pieces and I'll sleep on it. Maybe tomorrow or the next day I'll figure out my next step. Right now...sort of a mystery! I don't want to mess it up. It's going so well!

Started to make the upper deck and have started to try and add it to the pressure hull. I decided to put the pieces together (top and sides) and then I'll lower it as a unit on the hull. You can see I did add a strip of balsa on the bottom of the deck since it needed to be a bit more substantial to help hold everything straight. We'll see how it all comes together when I add glue!

Dan

Spoiler: It worked! Deck is on and pretty darn straight! See the last two pics...

I do enjoy your build logs. The step by steps and ideas do help everyone. Starting
to look suitably submarine like.
