Russian SSK Kilo class: B-808 "City of Yaroslavl", scale 1:200
Let me introduce my new project and its build:
Russian SSK Kilo class - also known as diesel-electric submarine type 877 Warshawianka: B-808 "City of Yaroslavl", scale 1:200. B-808 bears the name of Yaroslavl: the city in western Rusia: Yaroslavl - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ![]() ![]() pr.877 history by naval-technology: SSK Kilo Class (Type 877EKM) Attack Submarine - Naval Technology Although this model has relatively simple form, is designated for at least experienced modelers, due to complex hull construction. Paper Kilo class is not easy even for me, her designer:D I divided build in three stages: hull main block hull bow section diving planes, propulsion and the sail. On this picture You can see the internal construction. It requires precision in cutting and building: ![]() Hull plating is done with "sock method" - adjacent hull plates are glued together and after that- glued to the skeleton: ![]() It is not easy to obtain smooth color edges: ![]() ![]() Spherical bow, the easiest part of the build: ![]() another pics in nearest future. Regards: storky

I hope.
Bow section: ![]() ![]() Looks pretty good, even traced lines are well arranged - except color edges:( Deck: this was not easy, shaping black parts with no visible symmetry lines is difficult: ![]() ![]()

That is a beautiful building effort. I am interested to see how this "sock" method leads to such accuracy, I'll have to try it myself too. With this internal structure, you could even make a detailed interior, if that was published at all. probably not, secret stuff...
Somewhere on papermodelers, a thread was dealing with how to smooth out the shape jumps from one barrel to the next one, I think it was Zathrus possibly. look forward to further pictures. |
